Have a fire escape plan (draw a floor plan, identify the exits, choose a meeting point outside, teach children how to escape, and PRACTICE)
Check and change the batteries in your smoke detectors regularly

Maidstone RCMP advise residents to be aware of potential paving fraud.
2025-10-28, 2:13 p.m.
On October 28, 2025, Maidstone RCMP received a report of suspicious persons potentially engaging in fraudulent behaviour in the RM of Wilton.
Two individuals in a truck approached a residence, offering asphalt paving services. The property representatives noted some red flags and did not provide any payment. The individuals are described as wearing high-visibility clothing and one spoke with a heavy accent, potentially British or Scottish.
Maidstone RCMP are aware that other RCMP detachments and police services in Saskatchewan have received reports of potential asphalt-related frauds this year and wish to remind residents to take precautions to prevent becoming a victim of fraud.
Always research contractors before engaging services, including checking reviews of their work. Obtain a written quote before proceeding with work, which should specify the service and materials being provided. Don’t be afraid to say no. Don’t be intimidated by high-pressure sales tactics, including requests to make a decision or provide payment right away.
Anyone who has information about this incident or who thinks they have been a victim of fraud should report it to police by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com
